The Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) is pleased to announce the upcoming EDHE Lekgotla 2023 and Studentpreneurs Indaba, scheduled to take place from September 4th to 8th, 2023. Co-hosted by the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education & Training (DHET), Universities South Africa (USAf), and the Cape Higher Education Consortium, this prestigious event aims to advance and support entrepreneurship in universities across South Africa.

The EDHE Lekgotla serves as the flagship event of the EDHE Programme, bringing together leaders in university entrepreneurship for a multi-day gathering. Alongside the Lekgotla, the annual Studentpreneurs Indaba supports student entrepreneurs with existing start-ups or small businesses by providing knowledge, opportunities, and networking.

Under the theme of “Social Innovation for Societal Impact” (#innovation4impact), the EDHE Lekgotla 2023 will foster relevance, interactivity, and diverse perspectives, offering a platform for sharing best practices, emerging initiatives, and the latest developments in university entrepreneurship. The programme aims to provide new insights and recommendations while positioning universities for their crucial roles in entrepreneurship, innovation, commercialization, and policy development.

The EDHE Lekgotla 2023 will feature engaging sessions aligned with the three goals of EDHE, including open discussions, think tanks, launchpads, and breakaways for collective reflection and feedback. Additionally, the Studentpreneurs Indaba will offer a focused two-day program to support studentpreneurs with existing start-ups or small businesses, addressing their specific needs and challenges.

This year’s event is expected to attract a diverse audience, including university and TVET college leaders, academics, support professionals, studentpreneurs, non-profit organizations, practitioners, private and public sector entities, local government representatives, and international participants. It will serve as a significant engagement platform for stakeholders interested in entrepreneurship in the higher education sector in Africa.

The Lekgotla will be presented in a hybrid format, ensuring an immersive in-person experience for EDHE members while providing inclusive and accessible online attendance for all interested parties. Key sessions will be streamed via the EDHE YouTube channel, integrated with the event’s platform, Glue Up.
