We invite all student business leaders to the Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) Studentpreneurs Indaba 2022 that will take place on Friday the 22nd of July in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, South Africa! The event will be on the last day of the EDHE Lekgotla 2022 taking place from the 19th till the 21st of July.

The event will be hosted in partnership with the Higher Education Leadership and Management Programme (HELM). EDHE is funded through a DHET UCDP grant and is managed by the Universities South Africa (USAf). USAf’s HELM programme has also received a grant via DHET’s UCDP and has made provision for piloting national student leadership interventions.

The hosting university of this year’s Studentpreneurs Indaba is the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in Gqeberha, formerly Port Elizabeth, under the theme #movetomarket. Early bookings are essential and limited space is available!

The EDHE Studentpreneurs Indaba is aimed at supporting student entrepreneurs with existing start-ups or small businesses through sharing knowledge, opportunities, and networks to support these young entrepreneurs in their entrepreneurial endeavours. This year’s focus is on student leadership for the business leaders of tomorrow.

The EDHE Studentpreneurs Indaba 2022 will take place on Friday the 22nd of July, from 9:00 to 15:30, for existing student entrepreneurs.

The Studentpreneurs Indaba is expected to host a total of 150 in-person and 150+ virtual attendees. The intended audience is student business leaders, student entrepreneurs who own start-ups or SMEs, and students involved with EDHE’s Communities of Practice and initiatives on the commercialisation of the innovation-entrepreneurship value chain.

Studentpreneurs will be equipped with knowledge and expertise in business leadership. The Studentpreneurs Indaba presents a wonderful opportunity to network with business-minded students from different universities.

The in-person sessions will be hosted at The Boardwalk Hotel, Casino and Convention Centre. The hotel is a mere 4.8km from Port Elizabeth International Airport and located at Beach Rd, Summerstrand, Gqeberha, 6019.

The Studentpreneurs Indaba will take place as an in-person event while providing inclusive and accessible online attendance to interested students. All sessions will be streamed via the Glue Up Events Platform for registered attendees only.

Registrations will take place via the EDHE website and will open on the 3rd of June 2022.  Buy your ticket for only R200 (in-person) to secure a spot! Virtual registration and attendance will also be available. Click here to go to the registration page.

The Studentpreneurs Indaba programme will be opened by introducing the EDHE Studentpreneurs Community of Practice and the Nelson Mandela University SWEEP Student Chapter.  The Studentpreneurs CoP consists of a maximum of 26 bona fide student entrepreneurs, nominated as representatives by and of their universities, to serve on this national entrepreneurship leadership structure. The purpose of the CoP is to identify challenges of and opportunities for student entrepreneurs at higher education institutions. The Studentpreneurs CoP is the mouthpiece on student entrepreneurship, as they strive to leverage and build support structures that may help small businesses owned by students.

The Student Women Economic Empowerment Programme (SWEEP), launched by EDHE in 2021, is a pioneering programme which is aimed at equipping student women for entrepreneurial activity in response to unemployment, gender-based violence and under-representation of student women in business. EDHE envisions SWEEP as a safety net of transferable and practical skills and opportunities, backed by the foundation of academic studies, ensuring options in the economic participation of student women.

The programme will kick-off with a keynote address from an expert entrepreneur, followed by parallel workshops based on content and case studies in an action learning modality. Context, challenges, and case studies on entrepreneurial leadership, and cultivating the next generation of leadership for the world of work, entrepreneurialism, and productive citizenship will be unpacked.  Joining on stage will be a panel consisting of some of the EDHE Entrepreneurship Intervarsity winners, to name a few.

EDHE has made provision for accommodation for students at an affordable rate on a first-come-first-serve basis from Thursday the 21st to Friday the 22nd of July. Limited free accommodation spots are available for groups of 2-3 people per room sharing. All students who register for the Studentpreneurs Indaba will receive an email from EDHE with an offer of the available accommodation. Students will have an option to accept or decline the offer.
