Session 2:

Lekgotla, 15 Sept: University Entrepreneurship in Africa

Welcome to EDHE Lekgotla 2020

As a country and continent, we have the opportunity to lead the way in developing new technologies and start-ups to meet the specific needs and challenges of the era we are in. The National Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) Lekgotla has been redesigned in the context of COVID-19.

Our Partners

Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)
University Capacity Development Programme (UCDP)
Bristish Council
Universities of South Africa (USAf)

What?

On behalf of the Department Higher Education and Training (DHET) and Universities South Africa (USAF), we bring you the free virtual EDHE Lekgotla 2020. In the true spirit of this year’s theme, #AfroTech – African Entrepreneurship through Technology, the lekgotla will take place through the innovative use of event technology. The event will include the third annual one-day Studentpreneurs Indaba, brought to you by the EDHE Studentpreneurs Community of Practice (CoP), aimed at supporting entrepreneurial students who do business while also studying.

When?

The virtual event is thoughtfully spread out over a 5-day period, from 14 to 18 September 2020. This way, participants can effortlessly incorporate the lekgotla in their lives with minimal disruption.

Why?

The aim of this 4th annual gathering of leaders in entrepreneurship development at universities is to connect, share the latest trends, new developments, and best practices in entrepreneurship development in higher education.

Who?

Hundreds of leaders, practitioners, academics, support professionals, and studentpreneurs from across South Africa and the African continent will gather virtually. We invite local and global thought leaders to share their insight and inspire action. Your suggestions of relevant changemakers as key speakers and panelists may be shared with Zana Boshoff at zana@usaf.ac.za. (Please note that this is not an academic conference and research papers are not invited.)

What’s different?

This year, given the virtual format of the EDHE Lekgotla, we can open our doors widely, inclusively, and free of charge to colleagues and studentpreneurs from across the African continent. As with previous lekgotlas, we will be using the Whova app (desktop and mobile) along with Zoom – only this time it will all happen virtually! OPPORTUNITY: Students interested in being featured free of charge in the student market, art exhibition, or live performances are invited to introduce their offerings to Linda at admin@edhe.co.za.

What will remain the same?

The EDHE Lekgotla has become known as a multi-sensory intellectual and social experience year on year. We plan to keep it this way, including a virtual student market, partners and sponsors exhibition, live student performances, and art exhibitions – all aimed at providing maximum exposure to support the business initiatives of students.
