Student Women Economic Empowerment Programme (SWEEP)

The Student Women Economic Empowerment Project (SWEEP) is a project, which serves a special purpose aimed at equipping student women for entrepreneurial activity in the context of gender-based violence and the under-representation of student women in entrepreneurship.

The SWEEP programme rolled out a webinar series every Wednesday afternoon each month from February 2022 to May 2022. These webinars featured female thought leaders and executive leaders in Universities in conversation with female student members of the national EDHE Studentpreneurs Community of Practice.

The webinars focused on the three-tier SWEEP model:

1. Professional and employability skills and opportunities
2. Entrepreneurship and economic activation skills and opportunities,
3. Sustainability and survival skills and opportunities.

This model has been a guide to exploring the realities faced by student women with entrepreneurial interests and small businesses. The SWEEP Sustainability and Resilience Chapter II: Maintain your independence through resilience webinar was held on 23 March as a continuation of the conversation from the previous webinar held in February both focused on the second tier of the SWEEP model.

The third and final webinar of the series will focus on tier 1 of the SWEEP model and will look at promoting yourself and your business through social media. The SWEEP Social Media Marketing webinar will focus on tier 1 of the SWEEP model, with 2 social media professionals and a young female entrepreneur as speakers for the day.
